On August 19, 2020, the Union Cabinet has given its approval for setting up of a National Recruitment Agency (NRA), which is aimed at filling up posts in central government organisations and public sector undertakings. Recruitment will be done on the basis of a computer-based common eligibility test, conducted for non-gazetted vacancies. This decision will benefit job seekers in the country.

As per the Indian prime minister, the NRA will prove to be a boon for crores of youngsters. Through the Common Eligibility Test (CET), NRA will eliminate multiple tests and save precious time as well as resources and will give a boost to transparency. Not only that, but it will also bring ease in the recruitment process through CET.

First, NRA will hold a preliminary (CET) selection to various government vacancies. The score of the CET will be valid for three years and during these years, one can apply for a job in different sectors of one’s own choice.

The CET will be based on three levels: i) graduate, ii) higher secondary (12th), and iii) matriculate (10th). It will replace the Tier 1 exams, held by Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for non-technical posts. However, the final selection will be made through separate specialised Tier 2 or Tier 3 exams. These exams will be conducted by the respective recruitment agencies. On the basis of the CET, candidates will be shortlisted for Group B and C posts in the central government.

The number of attempts is not limited if a candidate is eligible as per the upper age limit. Reserved category candidates are allowed upper age limit relaxation. As per the performance in CET, candidates will be shortlisted for Group B and C parts in the central government.
