WHO Report shows Younger Age Group to be the Main Driver of COVID-19
The World Health Organization (WHO) in August 2020 said it was concerned that the novel virus outbreak was being driven by people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Many of them are unaware that they are infected, and pose a danger to vulnerable groups. This trend of rising infection among the younger proportion of the population is being witnessed globally. A surge in new cases like in Vietnam has prompted some countries to re-impose lockdown as companies race to find a vaccine for this virus, which has battered economies, killed more than 7,70,000 people, and infected almost 22 million. It is not simply a resurgence, rather a signal that we have entered a new phase of the pandemic in the Asia-Pacific.
WHO has reminded drug developing makers to follow all necessary research and development steps while creating a vaccine. Socorro Escalante said the WHO was coordinating with Russia, which became the first country to grant regulatory approval for a Covid-19 vaccine in August 2020.
