The trophy presenters wore tuxedo hazmat suits, created and designed by costume designer Katja Cahill and executive producer Guy Carrington, at 72nd Emmy Awards with a view to the safety measures amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Cahill usually dresses presenters at the Oscars. On this occasion, the producers said, this is not only amusing, but also it ensures the health and safety of all of our winners and the presenters.

The move was welcomed by Netizens, particularly many celebrities who ditched their usual red-carpet fashionable looks this time and appeared in designer pyjamas while attending the ceremony virtually from their homes. It was an informal dress code to which the nominees stuck completely.

A hazmat (hazardous+material) suit is a piece of personal protective equipment, which consists of an impermeable whole-body garment, worn for protection against hazardous materials. They are often combined with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to ensure uninterrupted supply of breathable air. These suits are used by firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, researchers, personnel responding to toxic spills, specialists, cleaning up contaminated facilities, and workers in toxic environments. These are classified as any of Level A, B, C, or D, based upon the degree of protection they provide.
