Theog is a hill station situated in Himachal Pradesh around 30 kilometres away from Shimla. It is one of the ranges of the Himalayas which is 3400 metres above the sea level and is surrounded by five ghats: Rahighat, Deorighat, Premghat, Janoghat and Bagaghat. The place is covered by dense deodar forest and Theog there are orchards of apple and walnut on the way to Theog the main tourist spot in Theog is the Hatu Peak which is the second highest peak in Shimla. Terrace farms, temple towers, the snow covered Shivalik range can be seen from the Hatu Peak. It is also known for the Hatu Mata Mandir which was constructed during the reign of the Pandavas. The sanctum sanctorum has a pahari form of Maa Kali. The external structure was rebuilt by the temple trust with carvings of Vishwakarma, Hanuman, Brahma, Kali, etc. It also has a Tibetan Buddhist influence in the form of twin dragons.
The village of Theog have houses built with slabs of wood and stone interlocked in order to create an insulated, earthquake-resistant foundation. At night Orion’s Belt constellation, shooting stars and low-orbit satellites can be seen with the naked eye from Theog.
