On April 3, 2018, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched digital initiatives by Export Inspection Council (EIC) for ease of export. The flagship project by EIC, the official export certification body of the government, is aimed at enhancing ease of export in order to keep pace with changing dynamics of the world.
There are three portals to provide an opportunity for ease of export by reducing transaction time and cost. The portal also backs ‘Go Green’ initiative by reducing paper usage and saving millions of trees.
To provide fast, efficient and transparent services the complete export food chain has been integrated in this digital platform. Primary production, chain catch, aquaculture pond, dairy farms and apiaries are all completely linked with one another. Processing units, testing, laboratories, official controls and exports have complete traceability.
The portal—‘one lab one assessment’ brings all stakeholders like accreditation bodies, regulators and laboratories on a common platform, thereby bringing in a unified approach. Such a process of unified approach proves beneficial as it helps in reducing cost, time and multiplicity of assessment by granting joint certification and taking joint decisions.
The ‘export alert monitoring’ portal monitors non-compliances raised by importing countries. It will be done by monitoring of alert and action taken by different organisations involved in various processes right from initial certification in the food safety and biosecurity and analysing the trend, to understand the trade barriers to reduce the alerts and enhance the export trade.
