The Maharashtra state government has decided to inter-link rivers to combat the crisis of drought. The Damnganga-Pinjal river linking project of Maharashtra will fulfill Mumbai’s water requirements till 2060.The Damanganga-Pinjal river linking project proposes to divert excess water from reservoirs in the Damanganga basin to Mumbai through the Pinjal dam, built on the Pinjal river in Vaitarna basin.
For Mumbai this project is the long-term solution for its water requirements. The project is expected to provide 909 mld water daily.Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority will afford Rs.403 crore for the Kalu dam, which will fulfill the water needs of the MMR region.
