The Reserve Bank of India announced on July 19, 2018 that it would shortly issue ` 100 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (new) series. On the reverse, the new banknote bears a motif of ‘Rani ki Vav’, a symbol of the country’s rich cultural heritage.
‘Rani ki Vav’ is an intricately made structure (step well) in the town of Patan in Gujarat. It was built as a memorial to an 11th-century king Bhima. Located on the banks of River Saraswati, it became a UNESCO world heritage site June 2014.
The structure is built in the complex architectural style of Maru-Gujarat with an inverted temple and seven levels of stairs and holds more than 500 principal sculptures.
With the dimension of 66 mm and 142 mm, base colour of the note is lavender. The colour of the thread in the new 100 rupee note changes from green to blue when the note in tilted. It also has Swachh Bharat logo with slogan on the reverse side. The existing ` 100 note has an image of Mount Kanchenjunga and is green in colour.
